Epic Duels

Epic Duels Trophy

Epic Duels is the official game of SWAP.  For several years, we have held Interclubbal Tournaments for bragging rights and temporary possession of the First Place Trophy.  Designed several years ago by a member of SWAP, the trophy has Luke and Vader standing across from each other over a gameboard.  The names of all those who have won First Place in the Interclubbal Tournaments are written on the side.  Thus far, the only person to win First Place three times was Fluke Groundrunner, one of the former Presidents of SWAP.   However he was defeated in the last Tournament by ben_ethus, another former President of SWAP.  There has been much speculation about what will occur in the next rematch between the two.

Celebration IV Recap
Saturday, 02 June 2007

Seven members of the Star Wars Association of Pittsburgh headed out to the west coast for Celebration IV.   Most arrived a few days early to be able to explore the strange and wonderful place that is Los Angeles.  Included on their tour was the Hollywood Walk of Stars and the Santa Monica Pier.  Making the journey with SWAP was 'Traveling Luke,' a 12" Luke doll being sent from FanForce to Fanforce.

Several SWAP folks volunteered with Official Pix, getting to work with celebrities such as Jeremy Bulloch and David Prowse.   Tradmic also spent a great deal of time with Jan Duurasema, discussing one of the favorites of the EU, Quinlin Vos.

In the Friday Costume contest, MomMaster took second place and Plagius (wearing a MomMaster designed costume) took third place.  In the Sunday Costume contest, MomMaster won first place and Plagius (again wearing a MomMaster designed costume) took second place.   MomMaster also won third place in the SW Celebrity talent competition!

More details about the trip can be found on the SWAP message boards here. Photos can be found here, here, and here.

CIV LogoOn May 25, Star Wars will officially turn 30 year old, and about 10 members from SWAP will be onhand in Los Angeles, California for Star Wars Celebration IV to help celebrate the feat. The convention, held at the L.A. Convention Center from Thursday, May 24th through Monday, May 28 is the ultimate experience for Star Wars fanatics. The five-day event won't inhibit a few detours before the things kick off, as The Price is Right and Santa Monica Pier, among other spots, are planed destinations for several SWAP members.

SWAP once again hosted several panels each day, raised some money for charity, and had a great time participating in this year's Comicon.

The final tally for the raffle to benefit Animal Friends was $400. A big thanks to Dark Horse Comics, Toys R Us, Burger King, and Giant Eagle for making donations to the prize baskets. Chris Minta of Ohio won the kids basket and J. Mergenhagen of Buffalo won the collectors basket.

SWAP continued to host panels throughout the weekend, which concentrated on Star Wars collecting, costuming, and fan films. We would like to thank Star Wars Action News and Parker Productions for donating their time and effort towards making these panels successful.

The Tattoo contest saw many entries and some very nice Star Wars and Comic tattoos. Thanks to Jester’s Court for sponsoring the tattoo contest.

The Friday Night Social included a presentation of A Great Disturbance , a funny Star Wars mocumentary fan film and the North East Fan Force Awards were attended by Peter ‘Chewie’ Mayhew and Matthew ‘General Grevious’ Wood.
